ACUE Faculty Development Institute Application: Academic Year 2020 - 2021

ACUE Faculty Development Institute Application: Academic Year 2020 - 2021

-----------
DEADLINE: APRIL 24, 2020

Thank you for your interest in joining USM's growing community of faculty fellows trained through the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). This is a highly competitive program, sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Center for Faculty Development.

PLEASE NOTE: We are seeking applications for two new cohorts of 15 faculty members, beginning in fall 2020 and spring 2021. The fall cohort will meet on Fridays from 1 - 2:30 pm and the spring cohort will meet on Fridays from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. Weekly attendance is mandatory. Missing one session is manageable, but if you are unable to attend more than one session you should not apply to participate. Applications are due on April 24, 2020.

ACUE faculty fellows will, like others who have completed the program, spend each term (1) individually working through online interactive modules, (2) exploring at least one technique in a class during the week, and (3) joining together each Friday as a group for a facilitated discussion of that week's topic.

Course 1, Promoting Engaged and Active Learning, focuses on strategies for engaging and motivating our students to learn. We begin with an Orientation early in the semester you are selected. Faculty will meet weekly thereafter for approximately 10 weeks. At the end of the semester, faculty fellows who have successfully finished all course modules will receive a USM Certificate in Promoting Engaged and Active Learning from the Office of the Provost as well as eight electronic badges from ACUE.

You must then complete two more semesters of courses (approximately 8 - 10 weeks each). These courses, Assessment of Teaching and Learning and Effective Course Design, consider evaluation and development of your courses. Once all three semesters and all ACUE modules have been completed, you will be awarded the Certificate in Effective College Instruction endorsed by ACUE and the American Council on Education (ACE). Our faculty fellows also earn the USM designation as an ACUE Distinguished Teaching Scholar.

Please use this form to indicate your interest in the ACUE program.

Please note that participation in ACUE involves a substantial time commitment requiring online work, classroom experimentation, and face-to-face meetings every week for three semesters. If you have any questions, please contact the Center for Faculty Development at 601-266-4196. Read what faculty who have been through the ACUE program say about their experience.

Thank you for your interest! We are excited to offer this professional development opportunity to the faculty community at Southern Miss.
